Red light area
It is a network of alleys around two canals containing several hundred tiny one-room apartments with a window or glass door, typically illuminated with red lights. The area also has a number of sex shops, sex theatres, peep shows and a number of "coffee shops" offering various cannabis products.
Anne Frank House
The house is a museum dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank, who hid from Nazi persecution with her family in hidden rooms at the rear of the building.
Dam Square
The town square has notable buildings and frequent events. Its is flanked by the Royal Palace, the National Monument, Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky and department store De Bijenkorf. It contains numerous bars, which can be pricey and is very popular with tourists, as its on the tram system and is close by the red light area.
Rembrandt Square
A square with a different character to the rest of Amsterdam with numerous cafes and eating places but the square is predominantly the quarter for night clubs and striptease establishments.
Leidseplein square
Leidseplein gets very busy in the evening – with many cafes, cinemas, theatres around and many street performers and visitors filling the square.
