So what does Stefanie think of Turkey?
I first went to Turkey at the age of 7, to the resort Turgertreis on the Bodrum Peninsula. We stayed in the Hotel Waterville and enjoyed so much we continue to go there until this day.
Turgertreis is fairly quiet and is suitable people for all ages including families and younsters. With a beautiful beach, everything from bars, shops & restaraunts are located on the beach front.
Just a small bus ride away is the resort Gumbet, not as quiet as Turgertreis but equally as pretty. I worked and lived in a small 3* hotel called the Mavi Yakamos for 6 months. Gumbet is more lively than Turgertreis with its famous Bar Street boasting over 50 diffrent bars!
Bodrum is just a short stroll away from Gumbet, again very lively but if you're looking for sight seeing and things to do this is your place. You have a large variety of watersports suitable for all ages, a fantastic range of shops on the beachfront. You also have the beautiful Bodrum Castle (St Peter) and its museum is fascinating. There are also organised days out to the wonderful Ephesus and Pamukkala, where the hot mineral waters flow and have snowy white pools. It is beautiful and well worth a visit.
I have also visited the bustling city of Istanbul, this an experiance not to be missed. Travelling around is easy as there is a cheap tram system that runs all around the city. You have the very busy bizarre, booasting over 3000 stalls, making it the biggest bizarre in the world. For a taste of culture visit the famous Blue Mosque (The Sultan Ahmet Cahmi Mosque). You will be asked to cover your legs and shoulders but pashminas are supplied.
Handy hints:- £10 visa on entry to the country, lira not accepted, try to give a £10 note as change is not given!
- Dont be forced to eat or drink some where you dont want to, just be polite and say no, they will take the hint!
- July and August are the hottest times, be prepared for tempretures soaring up to 34c
- Fix the price of the taxi before you get in!
- If your brave enough to try the local tipple "Raki" be carefull as it has a high alcohol content and can cause severe illness and dehydration.
