So what does Jenna think of Thailand?
I visited Thailand in March 2007 with my partner. We had been in Australia for some time before that and I did not think it would be possible to see more beautiful beaches than there but I was mistaken!
Thailand is a wonderful holiday destination which will offer some of the most scenic coastline and tropical islands you will ever see. The country offers an impressive range of holiday choices.
For the more adventurous you can go on a trek of northern Thailand to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai where you can walk through the jungle covered mountains and observe thousands of species in their natural environment.
For those of you seeking a bustling city break Bangkok is ideal! The shopaholics will be overwhelmed by the all night markets and the extremely cheap prices and for those of you looking for a bit of culture the temples and architecture are sights not to be missed.
Sun worshippers have a huge choice of idyllic beach resorts. The most popular islands are Phuket and Kho Samui.
Phuket
Thailand's largest island is known as "the pearl of the Andaman sea" and is blessed with unspoilt beaches, mouth-watering cuisine and bargain shopping.
Must Do's: - Trips run frequently from Patong, Karon and Kata (all resorts in Phuket) to Phi Phi island, the setting for the film "The Beach". This is an absolute must as the crystal clear waters are perfect for snorkelling and swimming.
- Take an afternoon visit to James Bond Island the setting for "The man with the golden gun" and watch the sun set over the unspoilt island.
- Visit Patongs hectic nightlife at least once! Taste the tropical cocktails and the extravagant shows the locals produce.
Kho Samui
Only an hour flight from Bangkok, this island is largely covered with coconut plantations and has all the feels of a tropical destination.
Must Do's: - Take a boat over to a neighbouring island for the famous full moon parties.
- Relax!! most visitors to Kho Samui will laze about enjoying the beach and the 5* service that you receive.
Hints and Tips: - Shop around when booking trips in resort. Prices will vary from person to person so make sure you get a few prices to ensure the best deal.
- Try the local cuisine, go off the main street for the best food all sourced locally.
- Barter with market traders! never accept the first price otherwise you will have paid over the odds for your goods!
Final word: Thailand is a friendly country that welcomes western tourists. I loved every minute in the country and will definitely be returning. I would recommend this destination to anyone looking for something different and exotic and excellent value for money. Enjoy!
