Majorca attractions

Beaches in Majorca

Majorca is renowned for its fantastic array of sandy beaches.  From miles of sweeping sand and crystal clear waters to secluded coves Majorca is truly the sun worshipers' haven.  Popular choices in the North would be Alcudia or nearby Puerto Pollensa which are both an ideal choice for families with their nice calm waters.

To the East of the Island you can’t beat Sa Coma with its white sand and the lure of watersport activities.  If pretty coves are more your thing then Cala Bona and Cala d’Or are definitely for you.

Over on the West coast, you will find the lively resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova which boast huge beaches and waters filled with Banana Boats.

If you are planning a visit to Mondrago Natural Park in the South, Cala Mondrago and S’Amarador are both located in the heart of these very pleasant surroundings offering easy parking and a great chance to relax on these fine white sands.

Sightseeing & Tourist Attractions

Caves - Majorca offers spectacular beauty not only in its landscapes, but also beneath them. For centuries, water has been sculpting fantastic formations that amaze visitors.  One of the most popular attractions in Majorca “Cuevas del Drach” is situated on the eastern coast of the island.  Inside the caves there is a big subterranean lake, which is considered to be one of the biggest in the world (177metres long, 30 metres wide), where classical music concerts are performed daily.  After the concert you can enjoy a boat trip on the lake enhanced by the illuminations. Nature Lovers – There is plenty to please nature lovers in Majorca, be it enjoying the parks or experiencing untouched spaces.  The many tourist information centres have details of the many places to visit but one of the most popular attractions which appeals to all the family is Palma Aquarium which boasts the deepest aquarium in Europe (visit www.palmaaquarium.com

Water Parks – In addition to its attractive beaches, Majorca is also home to many fun and refreshing water parks where a great time is guaranteed.  With some of the largest Water Parks in Europe both adults and children alike will enjoy the exciting attractions on offer.
The main waterparks are Aquacity situated in Arenal, Aqualand and Western Park both Magaluf and Hidropark in Alcudia.

Other activities that prove extremely popular on the island of Majorca include Horse Riding, Golf, Go Karting, Glass Blowing, Bowls and more.

Shopping

Palma is the shopping capital of the island with its chic boutiques and elegant boulevards with big name stores.  If shopping malls appeal to you then a visit to Porto Pi on the seafront is definitely in order. There is also an array of specialist shops selling locally produced goods such as soap, pottery and wine.

There are also Markets such as Plaza Olivar, which are great for Majorcan delicacies.  One of Majorca’s biggest outdoor markets is in the town of Inca where you’ll find hundreds of stalls to choose from.  You can buy arts and crafts in glass, ceramics, embroidery, fabrics, shoes, leather, silverware, trinkets, jewellery, pearls and more.

Eating Out

The range of cuisine on the island of Majorca is extremely diverse; whether you want paella or pie and chips you can get it all here.  As you would expect from the capital, Palma impresses you in the culinary stakes with choices of gourmet delights to quaint traditional tapas bars.

Elsewhere on the island, the livelier resorts of Palma Nova and Magaluf give you a taste of home with fast food outlets galore.  All of the bigger resorts have their fair share of Chinese, Indian and Italian restaurants.  With regards to more local cuisine, the island is rich in vegetables so vegetarians are well catered for.  As with any island, fish is also a speciality and Tapas, which are different combinations of meats and vegetables in sauces are another great Majorcan dish.

Nightlife

The obvious resort to mention here is of course Magaluf, whose nightlife is legendry.  With its non-stop party attitude and never-ending happy hour, if the lure of free shots appeals to you then this is the place.  Every night of the week, 1000’s of party-goers strut their stuff to the on The Strip which attracts plenty of big name DJs.  The biggest club is undisputedly BCM with it’s foam parties until sunrise. Nearby Palma Nova also has a lot to offer in terms of lively nights out.

Palma also promises a great night out in the form of trendy waterfront bars and chic cocktails in the city’s Paseo Maritimo area.  Here you will also find the renowned superclub Pacha or if you like a flutter, try your luck in the islands only Casino.

For families and couples looking for a lively resort but not quite on the level of Magaluf, resorts such as Alcudia and Puerto Pollensa will be appealing.  Bars and restaurants in these resorts are very accommodating of younger visitors.
